Safety Assessment
Assembling safety and quality in all toys and hardgoods
A safety assessment aims to identify any potential hazards that a toy may present, and to assess the potential exposure to those hazards.
At European and UK levels, this risk assessment procedure is mandatory under the applicable toys legislation and must be performed before the toy is placed on the market.
Despite the fact that many of the requirements to carry out this safety assessment are included in the harmonized toy safety standards, the manufacturer remains obligated to assess whether there are any gaps in the standard or features in the toy that could present a potential hazard.
On top of that, the safety assessment of toys under the European Toys Safety Directive or the UK Toys Safety Regulation will determine which conformity assessment procedure must be carried out.
