How to claim your toys are vegan with confidence
Assembling safety and quality in all toys and hardgoods
In recent years, the consumer has become more aware of factors such as sustainable materials, manufacturing environmental impacts and the product safety of the goods they purchase and as such the ‘organic’ and ‘ethical’ toy markets are booming.
However, have you ever wondered if toys can also be claimed as VEGAN, and what would be required to tap into the fast-growing vegan consumer market?
There are many considerations to be made, such as adhesives, for example. During the assembly of toys, different adhesives are used to bond the toy parts and components, be it a wooden, plastic, fabric, rubber/ latex or other types of toy. Adhesives might consist of animal-derived materials. Consider also components such as dyestuffs, printing inks or other process auxiliaries which may contain animal-derived raw materials.
In order for a good to be regarded as vegan, NO animal-derived materials should be used in the entire production process.
So, how do you make sure that your toy goods are genuinely vegan? How can you substantiate and have confidence to market your products in such a way?
