New process to import product to Saudi Arabia

On 1st January 2019, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) launched the SABER platform, their own electronic certification system (online portal), which was developed through the “Saudi Product Safety Program” called SALEEM.

SABER will become, gradually by product types and categories, the only system for clearing goods through Saudi customs and replace the SASO COC.  Once the product type becomes mandatory on SABER then SASO COC can no longer be issued for that product type and it will be necessary a Product Certification of Conformity (PCoC).

Besides the PCoC, the Shipment Certificate of Conformity (SCoC) will also be required to enter Regulated Products in Saudi Arabia.

These certificates of conformity will be managed, checked and issued in an online process where the importer has to register, add product information and choose one of the SASO-approved certification bodies for issuance of PCoC and pay related fees through SABER.

PCoC is valid for a period of one year and the SCoC is valid for the specific shipment only.

For products under the scope of the Technical Regulation for Textile Products (M.A-164-18-05-02), this process will become mandatory from December 2019.
