UKCA Marking
Assembling safety and quality in all toys and hardgoods
In January 2021, the UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) Marking replaced CE Marking for most goods being sold in Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland), including toy products.
Our toy testing laboratory in Manchester, UK operates as a UK Approved Body (6952) for UKCA marking of a wide range of toy products.
The toy laboratory can carry out tasks related to conformity assessment procedures set out in The Product Safety and Metrology etc. (Amendment etc.) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019, when a third party is required.
UKCA Marking for toys
The technical requirements (‘essential requirements’) you must meet – and the conformity assessment processes and standards that can be used to demonstrate conformity – are largely the same as they were for the CE Marking.
You only need to use the new UKCA marking before 1 January 2022 if all of the following apply. Your product:
- is for the market in Great Britain. (Products for Northern Ireland are subject to CE Marking requirements. Learn more about our CE services for toys.)
- is covered by legislation that requires the UKCA marking
- requires a mandatory third-party conformity assessment
- conformity assessment has been carried out by a UK conformity assessment body
Apart from conformity assessment, Eurofins toy laboratories worldwide are able to test toy products as part of UKCA marking regimes. For most customers, there will be no change to the process of testing needed to meet the requirements of both UKCA and CE marking.
