This course provides an overview of the whole leather making process and will be delivered by Eurofins | BLC Leather Technology Centre.
This technical course is delivered in two defined sections;
- 1. Raw to Tanned
- 2. Tanned to Finished
Both sections cover the essential technical knowledge which you can apply to industrial leather processing.
By attending this leather processing course, you will gain an understanding of the chemical properties of the leather making process, as well as chemical compliance with various international legislation's. This includes a summary of common restricted substances found in both Raw to Tanned and Tanned to Finished leather and how you can avoid them. You will also have the opportunity to review the LWG Environmental Audit Protocol as a guideline for tannery best practice.
If your business is looking to manufacture both chrome-tanned and/or chrome-free leather, then this course provides you with an overview of both tanning processes as well as common problems and the effect of animal husbandry on the quality of leather produced. The Eurofins | BLC leather expert will be on-hand to provide answers to any questions around issues you are experiencing in your day-to-day role.

Speakers
Karl Flowers is the technical director at Authenticae Ltd. He started his tanning career with the Leather Industries Research Institute, LIRI (in South Africa) and has actively consulted and researched in fields including sustainability, CO2 deliming, new waterproofing and retanning chemical applications, cationic finishing, computer-aided colour matching and drying technologies. Karl is passionate about the global dynamics of the leather industry; clean technologies; and operations management in the tanning industry. Karl’s research focusses on implementation of new technologies into the tanning industry. Karl received his BSc(Hon) and MSc (Leather Science) from Rhodes University, South Africa, and is a Fellow of the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists. Karl has produced 118 publications and has an international reputation as a world-class educator/trainer. |
