Danish ban on PFAS in clothing and shoes

Clothing, shoes and waterproofing agents are one of the biggest sources of PFAS in the environment in Denmark. Subsequently, the government wants to introduce a national ban on PFAS in these consumer goods.

PFAS in professional clothing and safety clothing will not be part of the ban as this type of clothing has special requirements for safety and functionality. This means that it is difficult or not possible to find PFAS-free alternatives available on the market.

The announcement of the ban is expected to be ready on 1 July 2025. The government proposes to give businesses a transition period of one year, meaning that the ban would apply from 1 July 2026.
