Asbestos Survey

Legal framework
According to SOLAS Ch. II-1, Regulation 3.5.2 – For all ships, it is prohibited to install new materials which contain asbestos.

Ban on the use of Asbestos on board ships
• If the ship was built after 1 January 2011, any materials which contain asbestos must be removed immediately by a certified company.
• If the ship was built between 1 July 2002 and 1 January 2011, any materials containing asbestos must be removed within 3 years.
• If the ship was built before 1 July 2002, no removal is necessary.

In all cases, asbestos should be managed properly. Eurofins Maritime Services has certified and experienced asbestos experts who can provide tailor-made solutions for every asbestos issue. We provide:
- Asbestos surveys
- Drawing up AMP’s
- Delivery of PPE’s
- Guidance during removals.
We are even able to bring a mobile laboratory on board to reduce the size and duration of the removal.

Surveyor and self-sampling opportunities
Eurofins can provide professional sampling by a surveyor, or
a self-sampling kit, complete with instructions. Daily backup
made at a second datacenter.

Accredited Analysis
Eurofins uses accredited analysis methods according to ISO
17025 and NEN 5896 standards.
