Fundi Bots (Uganda)
Fundi Bots is a non-profit education initiative promoting improved, practical science education in African schools and communities through the provision of hands-on skills and project-based training, with a strong focus on rural and underprivileged regions. One of Fundi Bots’ dedicated initiatives is Fundi Girls, which promotes the equitable inclusion of girls in science education and careers at all levels.
Thanks to the support of the Eurofins Foundation, and despite school lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic, Fundi Bots trained 91 teachers through an Enhanced Science Curriculum in 2020/2021.
The grant also has enabled Fundi Bots to expand the technical capacity of their research and development department. The organisation was able to purchase machinery to set up a production facility. This has and will contribute to the long-term impact of their work by developing additional tools and learning aids to support the implementation of the Enhanced Science Curriculum in 33 schools.
In 2021/2022, the Eurofins Foundation renewed its support to Fundi Bots Enhanced Science Curriculum.
The support from the Eurofins Foundation has enabled Fundi Bots to expand the technical capacity of its production department and strengthen their research and development department, through the purchase of machinery and establishment of a production facility. These two departments are fundamental to the development of vital tools used across their work.
In terms of the Enhanced Science Curriculum (ESC) specifically, support from the Eurofins Foundation has enabled Fundi Bots to reach a total of 5,602 students (Male :2,815, Female: 2,787), 66 teachers and 33 schools with the ESC programme and provide ESC tools to these stakeholders.
At an auxiliary level, the growth in production capability as a result of Eurofins Foundation funding has supported Fundi Bots to make a greater secondary impact through their programmes. This year alone, they have reached more than 9,770 students through their training tools, by comparison, in the 7 years between 2014 and 2021, Fundi Bots reached a total of 11,000 students.
The Eurofins Foundation renewed its support to Fundi Bots in 2022/2023, enabling them to provide educational tools to 14,358 students across 95 schools as part of the Enhanced Science Curriculum program. FundiBots also made significant strides in enhancing pedagogy by training.
