Girls on the Run Michiana - SoleMates
Girls on the Run inspires girls to recognise their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through research-based curricula which include dynamic discussions, activities and running games.
In 2020/2021, the Eurofins Foundation provided scholarships to six girls in the Girls on the Run Michiana SoleMates project. The programme is 10 weeks long, and allows young girls to train, socialise and participate in exercise, before completing a 5k run together. It improves self-esteem and confidence, something which girls at this age can be likely to struggle with due to gender inequality. In the longer term, the project aims to prevent negative behaviours such as substance abuse, early sexual activity, depression/anxiety, and poor academic performance, all of which can stem from low self-esteem.
In 2021/2022, the Eurofins Foundation renewed its scholarship funding to girls enrolled in the programme.
