DKMS GmbH (Germany)
DKMS GmbH is dedicated to the fight against blood cancer and blood disorders. They recruit stem cell donors, raise funds to cover donor registration costs and support the improvement of blood cancer therapies.
In 2021/2022, the Eurofins Foundation supported the organisation’s work to increase the pool of potential stem cell donors in South Africa.
Having more donors on the blood stem cell registry means more patients can receive a transplant, ensuring a second chance at life and improving their health. Only 30% of patients find a match within their family – for the rest, a global search begins.
15,000 stem cell donors were recruited in South Africa. By expanding and diversifying the worldwide registry, DKMS GmbH wants to work to facilitate equal opportunity to find a matching donor, regardless of a person’s ethnicity.
To date, worldwide, DKMS has registered over 11 million potential blood stem cell donors, and over 100,000 second chances at life have been provided by DKMS. DKMS also supports and funds blood cancer research.
