Chimalaya Charity (Nepal)
The Chimalaya Charity is a Danish / Nepalese NGO, founded in 2010 to support mothers and give newborns the best start in life by fighting malnutrition. The Chimalaya Charity’s overall objective is to reduce malnutrition and promote child health and development by training mothers and their families. It helps to ensure that mothers are healthy before and after giving birth, that more newborns survive childbirth and early life, and that the negative growth curve in children under five years-old is reversed, which has benefits for both the individual and society.
An additional positive consequence of the work done by the Chimalaya Charity is that the Mother Groups held by the organisation bring together women from different castes to socialise and share experiences and knowledge, something that does not usually happen outside of this context.
In the 2020/2021 period, support from the Eurofins Foundation helped to fund the renovation and extension of the current natal health clinic in Bode. Their work has unfortunately been delayed due to COVID-19 lockdowns.
Nonetheless, the programme has helped many vulnerable women and babies by teaching women about nutrition and how to best care for their children, including through breastfeeding. Through the project, the Chimalaya Charity works with local municipalities in Nepal and the Dhulikhel hospital, a community-based not-for-profit hospital that is very keen to collaborate with the Chimalaya Charity.
For the 2021/2022 period, the Eurofins Foundation has renewed its support for the work done by the Chimalaya Charity at the clinic located in Bode, Nepal.
