What is Matter?

Matter is an open standard for products in the Internet of Things (IoT) space, and it allows the next generation of products to work across brands, ecosystems and platforms.

Matter enables communication between smart home devices, mobile applications, and cloud services across various ecosystems, such as Amazon's Alexa, Apple's Siri, and Google Assistant.

Matter was developed through collaboration within the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA), previously known as the Zigbee Alliance. The organisation includes hundreds of companies that work to establish and deliver open standards for IoT devices.

Matter certification with the CSA shows that a device can support interoperability with other certified products, smart devices and applications such as Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

How Matter certification can help you

The Matter is an underlying connectivity protocol built on existing and proven technologies. To obtain certification, a product must demonstrate that it complies with Matter specifications before it can carry the Matter logo.

By obtaining Matter certification for your products, you can demonstrate that interoperability between certified products is seamless across brands, expanding applications and enhancing the user experience.

It will also allow for the use of Certified Product logos and listing of the product on the CSA website, demonstrating to your customers that the products meet the stringent requirements needed to obtain certification and that they will operate reliably with other certified devices.
