• The MET Mark indicates national compliance by virtue of MET’s equivalent accreditations to UL and CSA.

What is NRTL Certification?

• NRTL Certification is the mandatory evidence about a product or device’s compliance with certain safety standards, ad described by the OSHA.
• After testing to the relevant testing standards and accordingly certifying a product under the NRTL program by the OSHA, the NRTL authorizes the manufacturer to apply a registered certification mark to the product.
• The MET mark is the evident proof that the product complies with the requirements of one or more appropriate product safety test standards.

Since UL writes the safety standards, don’t manufacturers need to display the UL mark?

• The legal requirement is that the laboratory which performs the testing is a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) recognized by OSHA.
• While UL does coordinate much of the standards writing, they are only one of several NRTLs for testing and certification.
• The MET Mark indicates that the product has been evaluated for safety by an approved independent lab in accordance with the national standard.

Where is NRTL certification required?

• In the workplace, under OSHA’s jurisdiction:
• 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S requires electrical equipment to be listed by a NRTL
• In the National Electrical Code (NEC) NFPA 70:
• Article 110-2 requires that electrical equipment be approved by a NRTL
• Insurance regulators
• On products and devices that may pose a risk to the user. Therefore, required by:
• Manufacturers
• Brand owners
• Retailers
• Buyers and product users

What countries accept the MET Mark?

• The MET Mark for product safety is accepted throughout the United States and Canada.
• For Canada, MET was one of the first labs to be fully accepted by the Standards Council of Canada as a Certification Body.
• The MET-c Mark is recognized by the Standards Council of Canada and provincial authorities throughout Canada.
• In addition, MET is one of the few labs in the US with international recognition as a National Certification body (NCB) as part of the IECEE CB scheme that includes 53 countries.
