PPE Testing - Gloves

Gloves | Safety & Compliance

Protective gloves are used in many situations to protect human skin during wet work or against mechanical or thermal injury, infections, or chemicals and drugs, thus reducing the risk to human health significantly. However, it is essential to find the appropriate gloves for each specific purpose. Eurofins companies can help with selecting the right gloves for each particular need, based on existing knowledge and through testing.

Disposable gloves can be Medical Devices, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or both, as per the European Regulation of medical devices and PPEs Regulation. When forming part of PPE, gloves fall under Category III PPE and, in addition to undergoing a certification process by an EU Notified Body, they need to meet one of the following requirements: conformity to type based on internal production control (Module C2), or conformity to type based on quality assurance (Module D).

Eurofins companies offer:

  • EU Notified Body services for PPE, gloves, garments and footwear for CAT II and CAT III, including services for module C2 and D* under Regulation (EU) 2016/425
  • UK Approved Body certification services for three major types of PPE (protective clothing, safety shoes and protective gloves) under Personal Protective Equipment Regulations (Regulation (EU) 2016/425 as brought into UK law and amended) and the Personal Protective Equipment (Enforcement) Regulations 2018

Our expert PPE team has rich knowledge and many years of experience in PPE compliance, ensuring seamless CE Marking and UKCA mark application procedures for every manufacturer, importer and exporter.

Some of the key standards for the testing of PPE protective gloves under regulation (EU) 2016/425 include: EN 420, EN 21420, EN 374-1, EN 374-2, EN 16523-1 (superseding EN 374-3), EN 374-4, EN 374-5, plus a long list of work and environment-specific performance tests to ensure that the gloves are fit for protection within the intended purpose of use.

MD gloves: If the gloves are a nonsterile Medical Device, they fall under Class I.

Disposable medical gloves which are used to prevent the spread of infection or illness must observe the following standards, according to Medical Devices Regulation (EU) 2017/745: EN 455-1,2,3,4.
