The focus of this day is on eradicating modern forms of slavery. Examples of modern slavery can be found in many industries and include:

  • Forced labour, such as bonded labour and debt bondage, the exploitation of migrant workers and domestic servitude.
  • Child labour, primarily through economic exploitation, with 1 in 4 victims of modern slavery being children.
  • Trafficking, including the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of coercion for the purpose of exploitation.
