As one of six founding members, Eurofins Agroscience Services, part of the Eurofins network of companies, a global leader in bio-analysis, welcomes the news that the European Association of Regulatory Consultants and Contract Research Laboratories (EACL) has been officially approved by the Belgian Authorities.

Approved on 18th July 2024, any Contract Research Organisation (CRO) or consultant worldwide can now become a member.

The EACL has been formally established to represent its members’ collective interests, following discussions amongst several regulatory consultants and CROs in Europe.

As a registered entity and legally established organisation in the EU, EACL is classed as a ‘registered stakeholder’. This standing means that members can now actively contribute to the discussion in the European Union’s regulatory bodies, working towards a functional regulatory framework for the region, that serves society and the environment while enabling sustainable innovation in the Agroscience sector.

This European level representative body is for those CROs and regulatory consultants with a complementary professional interest in the regulatory procedures managed by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and other bodies, such as the European Medicines Agency (EMA), regarding applications and other notifications that are submitted to these agencies.

There are six founding members, with ERM (Environmental Resources Management), CEM Analytical Services Limited and Eurofins Agroscience Services Germany Holding GmbH having signed and submitted the relevant documentation required to create the association under Belgian legislation on 11th April 2024.  The remaining founding members are CRL (Charles River Laboratories), SCC and Pen&Tec.

If you would like further information and are interested in joining, we would ask you to provide your contact details at EACL - Expression of interest . For any questions, please contact the EACL direct.

The competence and know-how of Eurofins Agroscience Services’ scientific and professional teams will be a valuable resource in this complex area.

The objectives of the EACL will include the following:

  • Monitor current and future developments of relevant legislation in Europe and of the operational risk assessment processes concerning the relevant safety authorities, including the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and European Medicines Agency (EMA).
  • Develop joint opinions and positions on legislation and operational risk assessment processes of the relevant safety authorities and present such opinions and positions before the relevant European bodies, national authorities and other relevant organisations and stakeholders.
  • Conduct any other activity, to the extent permitted by law, that helps fulfil the Association’s aim and objectives.

Manufacturers and producers of agrochemical and other chemical products may benefit from working with EACL members on a variety of levels – namely, having a research partner engaged at the forefront of regulatory developments who can bring in relevant technical and regulatory experience from a unique perspective right at the start of the product registration process.
